Job done early for Flyers
Winchester City Flyers 5 Abingdon Utd Development 2
Winchester City Flyers secured a semi final berth in the Southern Region League Cup with four first half goals against Abingdon United Development at the Charters Community Stadium.
The Premier Division hosts were in sparkling form before the break, creating a host of chances against their Division One North visitors, who rallied well to 'win' the second half.
The opening goal came from an Emma Whitlock corner, bundled in by Charlie Snelling at the far post. Abingdon keeper Maisie Moore was kept busy and made some good saves but was beaten by a precise Chelsie Hay finish for the second on 15 minutes.
Sian Wylie converted another sweeping move by cutting in from wide right and finding far corner on 25 minutes. The final strike came on 32 minutes and was the best of the bunch, Hay latching on to a cross to drive high beyond Moore from fifteen yards.
Abingdon had occasionally moved forward well and forced a good save from home keeper Lauren Sayler before the break and were to pull a goal back through April England in the second half, but only after Emily McDonough had netted a fifth on 50 minutes.
The home team continued to create opportunities but the clinical edge had gone and it was the visitors who had the final say, albeit purely a late consolation through Chloe Forrester with five minutes left to play.
Winchester City Flyers join Wycombe Wanderers , Portchester and Reading FC Community in the last four of the League Cup.
