In-form Freya receives England reward

Sarina Wiegman has named a 25-player squad for England’s final two fixtures of the ‘Homecoming Series’ as the

UEFA EURO 2025 champions prepare to close out a historic year.

The Lionesses will face Asian champions China PR at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Saturday 29 November

[KO 17.30]. More than 80,000 tickets have been issued for the meeting at the national stadium.

The fixture completes a hat-trick of games under the Arch this year after Spain were beaten 1-0 in February and a 6-0 defeat of Portugal in May. The squad will then travel south to meet Ghana at St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton on Tuesday 2 December [KO 19.00].

At both games, supporters will have the chance to celebrate the summer EURO triumph with the Lionesses for the last time in 2025. The remaining tickets for both fixtures are available through The FA’s ticketing page.

Maintaining the strong connection between the seniors and WU23s there is a debut call-up for London City Lionesses’ forward Freya Godfrey. Lauren Hemp and Grace Clinton return to the squad from injury.  Sophie Baggaley, Anouk Denton, Grace Fisk, Taylor Hinds and Lucia Kendall all retain their places in the squad having been called up across the October window.

Michelle Agyemang, Alex Greenwood, Hannah Hampton and Leah Williamson all miss out with injury. Following a busy season for club and country, and before Gotham FC participate in the FIFA Women's Champions Cup early next year, Jess Carter will take some time to recover after the conclusion of the NWSL Play-Offs this weekend and will not be part of the squad.  Lauren James will remain with Chelsea as she builds to full fitness.

The meeting with China will bring back memories of the 2023 FIFA World Cup group stage in Australia, where England recorded a commanding 6–1 victory in Adelaide.

Ghana will be the opposition on the south coast to wrap up the year, marking the first ever meeting between the two nations. Southampton will offer familiar surroundings for England, having hosted their 5–0 win against Northern Ireland at St. Mary’s Stadium during their run to EURO success in July 2022. It was also the venue for Wiegman’s first game in charge of the Lionesses in September 2021.

Sarina Wiegman said: “It’s been another unforgettable year and we’re looking forward to finishing it in the right way with these final two matches of the ‘Homecoming Series’. We will have the chance to celebrate our successes in front of our supporters but we’re also fully focused on our objective to qualify for the World Cup. With competitive fixtures in March, April and June 2026 these games against non-European opposition will give us some important learnings and development opportunities. It’s another very important window for us to work hard with the players and try different things.

“To play in front of over 80,000 at Wembley is something that we will never ever take for granted. We thank the fans for their truly incredible support, both at home and abroad, throughout 2025.”
