Manchester City twice came from behind to beat Arsenal 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium, which ensures they will goal into the international break on top of the table.
Arsenal took the lead when Lisa Baum bundled in from close range, only for Lauren Hemp to level with a powerful finish from an acute angle before the break. The visitors regained the advantage after the interval when Alessia Russo pounced on Yui Hasegawa's stray pass and thumped home. However, City substitute Kerstin Casparij curled the ball brilliantly into the top right corner with her first touch, before Hemp slotted under Anneke Borbe to put the hosts ahead for the first time. Khadija Shaw sealed the win late on with a deflected effort from the edge of the area, leaving Arsenal ten points adrift of leaders City after just five games.
Chelsea won their fourth successive WSL match with a comfortable 3-0 victory over West Ham United at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. Melvine Malard put the Blues ahead on 38 minutes after Sjoeke Nusken was tackled in the box and the ball fell invitingly for her to slot into the bottom corner. Keira Walsh made sure of the points with ten minutes remaining, hammering home from the edge of the area after receiving the ball from Wieke Kaptein. Maika Hamano, making her first start of the season, nodded home from close range to seal a hard fought win. Chelsea dominated throughout but only reflected that in the latter stages, with Walsh hitting the post and Nusken shooting over before the second goal arrived.
Alexia Putellas and Kadidiatou Diani both scored twice as London City Lionesses ran out 6-1 over Tottenham Hotspur. to end Spurs' unbeaten start. Putellas, who registered her first WSL goal in last week's win over Brighton, needed just three minutes to open the scoring, firing in the rebound after Grace Geyoro's strike was parried. Diani grabbed her first WSL goal on 22 minutes, finishing a fine move involving Freya Godfrey and Lucia Corrales, before Putellas added her second and London City's third, firing into the roof of the net after Danielle van de Donk's superb work down the goal line. Van de Donk then deservedly got her goal on 52 minutes, converting Diani's low cross at the near post. Tottenham pulled one back through Victoria Pelova, but Diani charged down Lize Kop's clearance for the fifth, and substitute Delphine Cascarino netted a fine individual goal in injury time to complete the rout.
Ruby Mace scored twice as Everton beat Birmingham City 2-1 at Goodison Park for their third WSL win of the season. The opener came on 12 minutes when Yuka Momiki's shot crashed against the post and Mace fired into the top corner from close range against the club where she had a spell in 2021. Birmingham responded just three minutes later through Oceane Hurtre, who collected Chancelle Effa Effa's through ball and slotted into the bottom corner. Everton claimed the win with 18 minutes left when Mace's effort from the edge of the box flew into the far corner via two deflections. The result moves Everton above neighbours Liverpool and into fifth, while Birmingham remain second bottom and still winless after five games.
Manchester United celebrated the 250th game in the club's history with a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool. Julia Zigiotti Olme intercepted Khiara Keating's poor pass out from the back and lofted the ball into the net after six minutes for what proved to be the winning goal. Liverpool grew into the game, and Phallon Tullis-Joyce made a superb double save to deny Cornelia Kapocs and Beata Olsson. Jess Park crashed a shot off the bar at the other end, while Keating tipped over Andrea Medina's rebound. In an end-to-end first half, Olsson was denied by Tullis-Joyce after a well saved low strike, and Keating reacted quickly to smother Medina's shot with the last kick of the half. Elizabeth Terland tried to double United's lead with a curling effort, but Keating pushed clear as the hosts made it back-to-back league victories.
Kiko Seike scored twice as Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Charlton Athletic 5-1 to secure their first win of the season. Charlton took a surprise third minute lead when Cassandra Korhonen reacted quickest to score the rebound after her first attempt was saved. But Brighton quickly took control, Olivia Garcia pulling the ball back for Seike to equalise on 26 minutes, before Garcia again provided for Fran Kirby to put the Seagulls ahead just before half time. Any hope of a Charlton fightback ended on 54 minutes when Seike fired home her second from inside the box. Brighton scored again late on, Gabby George heading in from close range deep into stoppage time.
Aston Villa's winless run extended to five matches after being held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace at Villa Park. Former Everton boss Brian Sorensen took charge of Villa for the first time in the league following Natalia Arroyo's departure earlier this week. After a goalless first half, Villa took the lead on 55 minutes when Chasity Grant broke down the right and played the ball across for Noelle Maritz to guide home her first goal of the season. Republic of Ireland forward Abbie Larkin, who had caused Villa problems throughout, levelled for Palace on 74 minutes, driving at the heart of the defence and powering the ball into the bottom left corner. Both sides pushed for a winner, with Georgia Mullett sending an effort over for Villa and Shannon O'Brien missing a better chance for Palace, before Pauline Peyraud-Magnin produced an excellent late save to preserve a point for the visitors.
