Sarina and Hannah win Ballon D’Or awards

England manager Sarina Wiegman was crowned Women’s Coach of the Year at the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards, while Lionesses goalkeeper Hannah Hampton claimed the Yashin Trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper.

Arsenal, fresh from their Women’s Champions League triumph over Barcelona, were named Women’s Club of the Year, capping a memorable night for English football.

Wiegman, 55, led England to a Euro 2025 triumph in Switzerland, securing a 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Spain after a 1-1 draw in the final. The triumph marked her second European Championship success with the Lionesses, following their 2022 victory on home soil. She saw off competition from four other coaches, including Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor and Arsenal’s Renee Slegers, to claim the prestigious award.

Hampton, 24, was instrumental in England’s Euro 2025 success, saving two penalties in the shootout against Spain. The Chelsea goalkeeper outshone Arsenal’s Daphne van Domselaar and former Chelsea stopper Ann-Katrin Berger to win the Yashin Trophy.

England’s Michelle Agyemang, who netted crucial goals in the Euro 2025 quarter final against Sweden and semi final against Italy, was in contention for the Kopa Trophy for the best young player. However, the award went to 19-year-old Barcelona and Spain winger Vicky Lopez.

Five Lionesses featured in the top 10 of the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the best player of the year. Arsenal’s Alessia Russo secured third place, with team mate Chloe Kelly in fifth, defender Leah Williamson in seventh, Chelsea’s Lucy Bronze in ninth, and Hampton rounding out the list in tenth.

Meanwhile. Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati has made history by becoming the first player to win the women's Ballon d'Or three times.

Bonmati, 27, took the award with her international team mate, Arsenal winger Mariona Caldentey, coming second.
