Salisbury on the rise!

Salisbury 4 Blunsdon 1

Salisbury took a big step towards promotion to the Corsham Print Wiltshire Premier Division with a 4-1 home win over Blunsdon, their closest rivals, at the Raymond McEnhill stadium.

The Division One clash always looked likely to go in favour of the Whites after an early seventh minute Angela Collins goal and they regularly created good chances with some well constructed moves.

Undeterred by the torrential rain which started midway through the first half Salisbury added a second just before the break through a shot by substitute Phoebe Spanswick. Blunsdon, who had only lost twice in sixteen previous matches, were certainly competing well all over the pitch but Salisbury had greater pace and creativity in attack.

Two quickfire goals midway through the second half settled the outcome. Brooke Nash finished nicely from close range for the third on 70 minutes, then Imogen Campbell added a fourth two minutes later.

Blunsdon got the consolation their efforts deserved with a good shot from distance by Lyndsey Plant but there was never any danger of a comeback from the visitors.

The result puts Salisbury nine points clear of fourth placed Blunsdon with just three matches left for both clubs and all but secures a top three spot for the Whites. The title of Division One champions will be contested with FC Chippenham Youth who are level on points with Salisbury.
