Scottish Women’s Premier League

Glasgow City edged out rivals Rangers with a dramatic 1-0 victory at Broadwood Stadium, moving them to the summit of the SWPL.

The tightly contested clash between the top two appeared destined for a goalless draw until Nicole Kozlova tapped in at the back post with five minutes remaining. Rangers couldn’t muster a response, meaning they slip to second in the table. City now lead by two points with a game in hand.

Celtic kept pace with the SWPL frontrunners, securing a comfortable 4-0 win against Montrose at Links Park to go level on points with second placed Rangers. Amy Gallacher opened the scoring after nine minutes, and Elena Sadiku’s side doubled their advantage just past the hour mark when Saoirse Noonan converted from a corner. Gallacher netted her second in the 80th minute, before Amy Richardson teed up youngster Sienna McGoldrick for her first Celtic goal to seal the win.

Hearts delivered a 5-0 thrashing of Partick Thistle at Petershill Park, with three goals in the final ten minutes

securing a commanding SWPL victory. Georgia Timms broke the deadlock after 61 minutes with a curling strike,

followed by Jenna Slattery’s free kick ten minutes later. Slattery struck again, sandwiching two quickfire goals from

Carly Johns in a three-minute flurry. Hearts remain fourth, level on points with rivals Hibs, who hold a game in hand, while Thistle languish in the bottom half.

Hibernian continued their impressive SWPL campaign with a 5-0 defeat of bottom placed Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park. Kirsty Morrison opened the scoring with a neat finish from a loose ball, followed by Ellis Notley’s first goal since January 2024 via a close range header. Siobhan Hunter’s brace and a debut Hibs goal for Scarlett Heron completed the scoring. Hibs stay fifth, level with Hearts and with a game in hand, while Hamilton remain pointless after seven matches.

Motherwell secured a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen to move into the top half of the SWPL table. Carla Boyce pounced on a defensive error to score after seven minutes, and Tegan Browning doubled the lead in the 26th minute, assisted by Katie Rice. The result places Motherwell six points behind Hibs in fifth, while Aberdeen sit second bottom, four points ahead of Hamilton and one behind Partick Thistle.

SWPL 2

The top two continue neck and neck and it is Kilmarnock who stay as leaders on goal difference after Lucie Burns (2), Eilidh Martin, Taylor McGlashan and Skye Stout fired them to a 5-0 win against Livingston. Spartans also won to join them on sixteen points, with a Natalie Bandura hat-trick spearheading their 3-1 victory away to St Johnstone, whose reply came from Brogan Anderson. Boroughmuir Thistle stay three points adrift in third, they netted five times without reply past Stirling University. Five different scorers - Leah Sidey, Ami Robertson, Lucy Livie, Lauren Hall and Ava Whitson - all found the net for Thistle. Summer Thomson bagged a hat-trick and Ellie MacDonald joined her on the scoresheet as Queen’s Park defeated East Fife 4-1, Katie Bryce replying, and this result keeps the Spiders ahead on goal difference from Gartcairn Women who were 2-0 winners over Dundee Utd thanks to Jessica Linden and Morgan Anderson.

On Wednesday night, Hibernian and Glasgow City will play their catch up match against each other. This Sunday, there are no league matches scheduled with the Second Round of the Sky Sports Cup taking place.
