Boroughmuir Thistle caused an upset in the Second Round of the Sky Sports Cup when they defeated Montrose 1-0 at the Meadowbank Stadium.

Fiona Gibson scored the only goal of the game, midway through the second half, to hand the SWPL 2 leaders a notable victory against their top flight opponents.

Celtic were taken all the way by Spartans but safely booked their place in the quarter finals with a 1-0 victory. Casey Howe scored the all-important goal, shortly before half time, to take the Hoops a stage closer towards their aim of lifting the trophy for the first time since 2022.

Holders Glasgow City enjoyed a much smoother passage into the last eight, scoring eight times without reply past Livingston. Linda Motlhalo got City off to a great start by giving them a fourth minute lead with the first of her brace, before Emily Gray bagged a hat-trick along with further goals from Ruby Seaby, Sofia Maatta and Emily Whelan.

Partick Thistle were taken to extra time by Gartcairn Women before eventually making it through with a 3-0 win. The SWPL 2 side’s resistance was finally broken in the 101st minute when substitute Mae English opened the scoring, shortly after coming on, and she scored a second after the break. Imogen Longcake rounded off the scoring with the final goal, four minutes from time.

Hibernian also eased into the quarter finals by winning 8-1 away to Kilmarnock. Libby Smith led the scoring with a hat-trick whilst Jasmine McQuade and Tiree Burchill each netted braces and Jessica Ramsay was also on target, with Skye McDonald slotting home a consolation for Killie from the penalty spot.

Motherwell were the other winners on the day, beating Hamilton Academical 2-0 at the Bumblebee Stadium. The Steelwomen needed to be patient though as the match remained goalless until the final ten minutes, when Ellie McDonald gave Motherwell the lead and Mia McArthur wrapped up the win a few minutes later.

The draw for the quarter finals will be made on Wednesday, when the six Second Round winners will be joined by Hearts and Rangers.
