Scottish Women’s Premier League

Glasgow City solidified their position at the summit of the Scottish Women’s Premier League by beating Aberdeen 5-0 at Petershill.

The breakthrough came late in the first half when Nicole Kozlova pounced on a rebound to open the scoring. Just before the interval, Natalia Wrobel’s precise pass found Sofia Maatta, who coolly slotted home. Lana Golob’s 75th minute volley made it three, with Mebae Tanaka and Lisa Forrest adding late goals to seal a comprehensive win, keeping City five points clear at the top.

Hibernian stretched their unbeaten streak to seven matches across all competitions, overcoming Partick Thistle at Meadowbank. The opener arrived in comical fashion when Kirsty Morrison capitalised on a collision between Ciara Grant and Jeni Currie to fire into an open net. Kathleen McGovern, fresh from her scoring exploits for Scotland, flicked in a 79th minute corner, before Ellis Notley’s long range strike in stoppage time secured a 3-0 win, nudging Hibs back above Celtic into second.

Celtic had earlier ascended to second place after a comfortable 3-0 victory against bottom side Hamilton Academical.

Saoirse Noonan struck just four minutes in, and Maria McAneny doubled the lead before the half hour mark. McAneny

then turned provider, delivering a corner for Lisa Robertson to head home five minutes into the second half. The result

places Celtic three points behind Glasgow City, though having played one game more than rivals, Hibernian and Rangers.

Hearts climbed above Rangers into fourth place, fending off a late comeback to win 3-2 at Oriam. Georgia Timms struck twice, including a penalty, and Georgia Hunter added a third to give Hearts a commanding lead. Rangers responded with Kathy Hill’s goal before half time and a stunning curled effort from Mia McAulay, but goalkeeper Rachel Johnstone’s heroics ensured Hearts held on. The defeat, Rangers’ third in four league matches, leaves them nine points adrift of leaders Glasgow City.

Montrose meanwhile consolidated their position in the race for a top six finish, drawing 1-1 with Motherwell at Links Park. Bailley Collins gave Montrose the lead before the break, but Kaela McDonald-Nguah’s fifth goal of the season levelled matters three minutes into the second half. The stalemate keeps Montrose two points ahead of Motherwell in the battle for the final top six spot.

Kilmarnock preserved their lead of five points at the top of SWPL 2 when they won 3-1 away to Gartcairn Women. Cara Gray, Kelsy Crainie and Lucie Burns were all on target for Killie, whilst Cairn’s consolation came from Morgan Anderson. Second placed Spartans meanwhile netted five times without reply past Livingston, with Olivia Hurrell, Lily Park, Izzy Young and Natalie Bandura all getting on the scoresheet along with an own goal. Boroughmuir Thistle remain in third after a Holly Aitchison goal earned them a 1-1 draw against Queen’s Park, who stay two points below them despite scoring through Charlize McFadyen. Danni Findlay, Callie Bowman, Lyla Marnie and an own goal earned Dundee Utd a 4-3 success away to St Johnstone, whose replies came via a Jodie Malcolm brace and Eirinn McCafferty. After eight defeats on the bounce, Stirling University picked up their first points and are off the bottom of the table after Tanaka Chitengu and Ellie Osborne gave them a 2-1 victory over East Fife, whose consolation came from Lucy Haggett.
