Dramatic return sees both leaders drop points

League leaders in both the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship and League One dropped points on a dramatic return of SWF’s top leagues after their winter break.

Renfrew Ladies kept all three points at New Western Park in a thrilling end-to-end contest with Championship leaders Falkirk, Sammy Jo Smith securing a late winner in a 4-3 victory which would be the visitors’ first league defeat of the season.

In Barclays Scottish Women’s League One, Queen of the South came from behind to rescue a point against Glenrothes Strollers, thanks to an equalised own goal from the visitors.

The results mean Renfrew cut the lead at the top of the Championship to seven points, while Forfar Farmington remain third after a 2-1 comeback win in Inverness, and Rossvale remain fourth after a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Dryburgh Athletic.

Greenock Morton moved three points away from the relegation zone with an emphatic 11-1 home win over Glasgow Girls, despite the best efforts of Glasgow keeper Mia McInnes who produced a string of incredible saves.

St Mirren moved into second in Barclays League One after beating Elgin City 2-1 at home, and Dunipace into third place, thanks to a strong performance and 3-1 victory in Airdrie. Cambusdoon came away from Dunfermline with a 4-1 victory which allowed Westdyke to climb above them and out of the bottom two with the same scoreline at home to Edinburgh Caledonia, who are rooted at the foot of the table since Hutchison Vale withdrew from the division.

In the regional SWFL, Edinburgh University Thistle remain top of SWFL East after a 7-1 win over Thorton Hibs, while SWFL Central/West leaders Bishopton’s 7-0 win over Dumbarton also kept them top.

In SWFL North, the top two clash between Arbroath and Grampian Ladies ended in a 1-1 stalemate to keep the sides separated by only a point.
