Portchy make history
AFC Portchester 4 Worthing 1
Southern Region League Premier Division AFC Portchester set up a home Third Round Adobe Women's FA Cup tie with Ipswich Town after a superb 4-
Four rapid fire strikes by the hosts either side of the break settled the outcome of this delayed tie and left FAWNL Division South West Worthing chasing a match they had led for most of the opening period.
In truth, despite taking the lead with their first effort on goal on 11 minutes through Lucy Jellett, Worthing were under pressure for most of the opening 45 minutes as the hosts dominated and sent in numerous crosses from both wings.
Layla Morgan volleyed just wide, goalkeeper Ella Hunkin saved well from efforts by Becki Bath and Gemma Hillier and as the clock ticked towards 50 minutes, it seemed that Worthing would survive to the break. However, Sarah Butterworth blocked a clearance on the left edge of the area then found Charmaine True who set up Morgan for a fine finish from 10 yards.

The same pairing added the fourth, this time a Butterworth corner finding the head of Bath and the contest was a good as settled with 25 minutes still to go. To their credit Worthing pushed forward as pressed the hosts back for the first time in the match but Portchy showed another facet of their game by defending solidly and still threatening on the break.
The majority of the 332 attendance were delighted by the excellent all round performance of the team and enjoyed the great efforts of the home club to make a special day of it. No doubt this will also be the case when Ipswich bring their Barclays WSL2 quality in the next round.
