Northern Ireland U16 to play in Paraguay

A Northern Ireland Women’s Under-16 development squad are off to Paraguay at the end of the week to take part in a development tournament.

UEFA has invited Northern Ireland to compete in the UEFA-CONMEBOL U16 Girls Development Cup.

Northern Ireland are set to take on Paraguay, Puerto Rico and Chile in the tournament run by CONMEBOL, the governing body of football in South America, with support from UEFA. Danielle McDowell Tuffey will manage the squad in South America, and she will be assisted by Julie Nelson.

McDowell Tuffey has chosen a 20-strong squad to make the trip across the Atlantic.

All games in the four-team tournament are being played at CONMEBOL’s complex at Luque in south-west Paraguay. Luque is part of the metropolitan area around Asuncion, Paraguay’s capital.

First up for Northern Ireland is a match against hosts Paraguay on Monday 1 June (11am start local time). Two days later they will take on Puerto Rico (11am start local time) and on Saturday 6 June their final game will be against Chile (8am kick-off).
