In her retirement statement, Bright said: “Representing Chelsea over the last 12 years has been everything to me, but I’m now ready to say goodbye to playing football. I’ve given all I can, and I never wanted to fight for any other badge.
“It is now time, and I’m ready to go into a new era. I’m always going to be Chelsea, but just in a different way.”
Signed from Doncaster Belles ahead of the 2015 season, Bright went on to play more Women’s Super League matches than any other player in history. She broke Jordan Nobbs’ record of 210 appearances in November 2025 and currently sits top of the list with 216 WSL outings. She holds Chelsea’s all-

Internationally, Bright earned 88 caps for England after debuting in September 2016, scoring six goals. She played a key role in the Lionesses’ Euro 2022 victory on home soil and captained the side to the 2023 World Cup final. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the sport, she was awarded an OBE in the King’s New Year Honours in 2024.
Chelsea have paid warm tribute to their captain, describing her as a “true legend” and expressing pride in her immense contribution to both the club and the growth of women’s football.
The club will honour her remarkable service ahead of their final Barclays WSL match of the season against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on 16 May.
