Mared and Soffia named in Wales squad

Rhian Wilkinson has announced a 26-player squad for the final two games of the UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign.

Wales will travel to Odense to face Denmark at the Odense Stadium on Friday 30 May (KO 6:15pm) before facing Italy at the Swansea.com Stadium on  Tuesday 3 June (KO 6:30pm).

Mared Griffiths and Soffia Kelly have both been selected after being involved with the WU19s in their Round 2 League A EURO qualifiers in south Wales in April, where the team finished second in their group.

Laura O’Sullivan-Jones is unavailable due to suffering an ACL injury, meaning that Kelly will take her place in the squad as one of the four goalkeepers selected. Poppy Soper and Tianna Tiesar are the other players named who are yet to be capped at senior level.

Rhian Wilkinson’s side faced Denmark in Cardiff last month which ended in a 2-1 defeat. Wales come into the window off the back of an impressive 1-1 draw against Sweden in Gothenburg, a side ranked fifth in the world at the time.

Wales will be hoping for two positive results to maintain their place in League A.

The Italy match at the Swansea.com Stadium will be the team’s final match in Wales ahead of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 finals in Switzerland, which will be the side’s first ever appearance in a major women’s tournament.

Tickets for the Italy match are available to purchase on the FAW ticketing website, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children, with discounts available for Red Wall members.

It was announced this week that Rhian Wilkinson will be announcing Wales’ UEFA EURO Women’s 2025 finals squad on Thursday 19 June on the top of the Wyddfa, Wales’ highest summit.

The squad announcement will involve a series of activities in the Gwynedd area throughout the day, including a football festival on a Cymru Football Foundation funded pitch in Talysarn and a Q&A evening with live music in a local venue.
