Manchester City savour double achievement

Manchester City have been crowned Adobe Women’s FA Cup winners.

City secured the league and cup double for the first time in their history after a 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley Stadium in front of more than 43,000 spectators.

Goals from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, Alex Greenwood, Aoba Fujino and Vivianne Miedema helped secure a fourth FA Cup title for City, having also won the trophy in the 2016-17, 2018-19 and 2019-20 campaigns.

City overcame holders Chelsea, AFC Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Birmingham City on their way to the final.

Victory over Brighton & Hove Albion comes just 15 days after lifting the Women’s Super League trophy and marks the third FA Cup achievement for Manchester City this month, with the men’s first team and boys’ academy winning their respective finals.

Director of Football, Therese Sjögran, said: “This is a fantastic way to end a special season for Manchester City. I’d like to congratulate Andrée, the staff and all the players for the role they’ve played in this success.

“As with our men’s first team, a domestic double is a tremendous achievement, and one we should be proud of.

“We have also made history by winning the Women’s Super League and the FA Cup for the first time in the same season, which is another shining example of the tireless efforts that have gone into the year.

“Having won the WSL earlier this month, it’s testament to the professionalism, hard work and mentality of this team that we have kept going to make an already amazing season a truly special one.

“We go again in 2026-27 on our return to European football but, tonight at least, we will reflect on and celebrate what has been a remarkable season.”
