Lily in the pink with WSL2 award

The winners of the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 awards for January have now been confirmed.

Firstly, Birmingham City’s Lily Crosthwaite has been named as Player of the Month after emerging victorious in the combined public and panel vote.

She played an integral role in the Blues’ emphatic 4-0 win over Portsmouth last month, providing a goal and an assist to secure all three points for the Midlands outfit and ensure they remained in second spot in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 standings.

Bristol City duo Jessie Gale and Sophie Ingle, alongside Crystal Palace’s Aimee Everett were also in contention for the monthly accolade, but Crosthwaite emerged victorious out of the quartet.

The aforementioned Jessie Gale however has earned the Goal of the Month accolade for her strike against Nottingham Forest.

The City forward’s strike topped the voting polls, seeing off the challenge of Forest’s Charlie Wellings (v Sheffield United), Crystal Palace’s Molly-Mae Sharpe (v Durham) and Hayley Ladd (v Sheffield United), and Southampton’s Aimee Palmer and Jessica Simpson (both versus Portsmouth).

Finally, the League Managers’ Association have announced that Bristol City manager Charlotte Healy has been voted Barclays WSL2 Manager of the Month for January.

The West Country outfit secured seven points from a possible nine throughout the month, running out 4-2 winners over Nottingham Forest and securing a 3-0 victory over Sunderland, coupled with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich to lift them into the top three of the division.
