Leicester City make double swoop

The Leicester City Women ranks have been strengthened with the permanent signing of Emma Jansson from Damallsvenskan side FC Rosengård, subject to international clearance, and the arrival of Sarah Mayling on a loan deal from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

29-year-old midfielder Jansson signs a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club and has now linked up with her new team at Belvoir Drive ahead of the Barclays Women’s Super League January restart.

Speaking to Foxes Hub, Emma said: "I am really honoured and excited to start my journey here. I am looking forward meeting the fans and playing at King Power Stadium.

“I will always bring my everything to the club I’m playing for, so the supporters can expect that from me. The WSL is a great league and where all players want to play. I am happy to be here and happy to be here with Leicester.”

She joins following a productive spell with FC Rosengård where she played a key role in securing two Damallsvenskan titles in 2022 and 2024.

A former Swedish youth international, Emma began her career with Hammarby IF in 2012 before making the move to Eskilstuna side Eskilstuna United DFF.  A brief spell with KIF Örebro DFF followed before a second stint with Hammarby IF in 2018.

A versatile operator capable of playing in both midfield and defence, Emma has excelled in a number of positions across the pitch and adds further experience to the squad for the second half of the WSL season.

28-year-old Sarah Mayling brings valuable experience to the ranks, having regularly competed in the Barclays Women’s Super League across ten consecutive seasons with both Aston Villa and Birmingham City.

In an interview with Foxes Hub, Sarah said: "The manager has shown belief in me and given me confidence, so it was a no-brainer to come and play for this Football Club.

"The facilities and the environment that is being created here all builds into it. Belvoir Drive is somewhere you'd want to work every day and will motivate us to be the best we can be."

Sarah arrives in Leicestershire with over 200 career appearances and strengthens the team’s defensive unit ahead of the second half of the 2025-26 season.

Born in Sutton Coldfield, the right back began her senior career with hometown club Villa in 2017 and first broke into their first team aged 17, before linking up with Birmingham City in the WSL.

A productive four-year spell with the Blues followed, where she earned a regular place in the starting XI, before a return to Villa in 2021, where she continued to earn regular game time in the top flight.

Sarah has now joined up with her team mates at Belvoir Drive and is available for selection ahead of their fixture with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 11 January.
