Joe Sheehan leaves Ipswich manager role

Ipswich Town can confirm the departure of Joe Sheehan from his role as Women’s First Team Manager with immediate effect.

Following his appointment in February 2019, Joe guided the Blues up to the third tier in the summer of 2021 before winning the FAWNL Southern Premier Division league title in 2024-25, securing promotion to Barclays Women’s Super League 2 for the first time in the club’s history.

Former Town defender David Wright, who has coached in the club’s Academy and has been assisting with the women’s team in recent weeks, will take charge for the remainder of the season. He will be assisted by Lauren Phillips and the rest of the existing coaching staff.

Ipswich Chairman, Mark Ashton, said: “I would like to thank Joe for the passion and commitment he has shown during his time in charge of Town Women, which has included the team moving to professional status as well as two promotions under his leadership.

“We are currently in discussions with Joe regarding a new role, which will hopefully see him remain at the club, utilising his vast experience in developing young players.

“We look to continue the growth of the club’s Women’s programme, both in the short and long-term, beginning with our desire to retain our status in WSL2 during the final 11 games of the season under the interim leadership of David Wright.”

Further additions to the women's set up will be announced in due course, in line with the club’s long term vision.
