Hurtre and Thomas win WSL September awards

The winners of the new season’s Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Super League 2 September Monthly Awards have now been confirmed.

Voted for by a combination of the public and a panel of industry experts, the successful individuals for the first month of the 2026-27 season are as follows.

Kicking off the awards, Birmingham City’s Océane Hurtré has been named Barclays Player of the Month. Hurtré is currently joint top goalscorer after netting four times in September. Despite Birmingham City still awaiting their first win, Hurtré’s form in front of goal has helped the Blues secure two points across their fixtures in September.

Barclays Manager of the Month has been awarded to Tottenham Hotspur’s Martin Ho following a strong start to their campaign, including notable victories over West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

The first Barclays Goal of the Month award of the new Barclays WSL season goes to Jodie Hutton for her sensational half volley against London City Lionesses.

Over in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2, Newcastle United’s Martha Thomas has topped the voting to be named September’s Barclays WSL2 Player of the Month, with her manager, Tanya Oxtoby, taking home the Barclays WSL2 Manager of the Month award.

Newcastle currently sit top of the table after winning all four of their fixtures so far this season.

The Barclays WSL2 Goal of the Month award goes to Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, after the Ghanaian forward found the top corner from distance with her left foot during Nottingham Forest’s victory over Durham - their first win of the 2026-27 campaign.

Following a public vote, the winners of the first month of the 2026-27 season are as follows:

Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce has come out on top in this month’s voting for the Barclays WSL British Gas September Save of the Month, thanks to her stunning launch and fingertip over the bar to deny Arsenal the lead at a crucial juncture. The USA international kept her eyes firmly trained on the ball until the very last second, producing a superb reaction save to deny Stina Blackstenius and keep Manchester United in the game.

Saves by Liverpool’s Khiara Keating (v Manchester City), Aston Villa’s Akane Okuma (v Chelsea) and Arsenal’s Misa Rodriguez (v Brighton Albion) were also in contention.

In the Barclays WSL2, Watford goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel has been named the British Gas September Save of the Month winner for her outstanding stop in the Hornets’ fixture against Bristol City.

Middleton-Patel topped the voting polls, with her seeing off the challenge of efforts by Durham’s Catriona Sheppard (v Southampton), Ipswich’s Lysianna Proulx (v Southampton), and Southampton’s Grace Moloney (v Durham).
