Hibernian make double signing

Hibernian have strengthened their squad with the exciting additions of defender Scarlett Herron from Shamrock Rovers and midfielder Jessica Fitzgerald from Peamount United, both on two-year contracts for undisclosed fees.

Herron, a 20-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-19 international, joins Hibs after a standout spell with Shamrock Rovers, where she was a regular starter in their 2025 campaign and earned the club’s Player of the Month award for May 2025. The versatile defender, who previously played for Athlone Town, will don the number 2 shirt for Hibs. Manager Grant Scott praised her arrival, stating, “Scarlett is a talented, powerful defender who gives us added depth in a key position. Her experience in the Irish league at such a young age is impressive, and we’re thrilled to see how she develops in Scotland.”

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Fitzgerald brings a wealth of pedigree to Edinburgh, having played a pivotal role in Peamount United’s 2023 League of Ireland Premier Division triumph at just 17. The midfielder, who claimed the 2023 PFA Ireland Young Player of the Year award, also has experience in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and is a regular for the Republic of Ireland Under-19s. She will wear the number 8 shirt. Scott commented, “Jess is a composed, technically gifted midfielder whose league-winning experience and Champions League pedigree will enhance our squad significantly.”

Both players expressed their excitement about joining Hibs, who have started the season strongly with two victories. Herron said, “Hibs is a club with a rich history, and I’m thrilled to get started, meet the team, and show what I can do on the pitch.” Fitzgerald echoed her enthusiasm, adding, “I’m buzzing to join the girls and get playing. The team’s had a great start, and I can’t wait to contribute.”

With a busy schedule ahead, these signings signal Hibs’ ambition to compete at the top level, blending youthful talent with proven experience. Fans will be eager to see Herron and Fitzgerald in action as the season progresses.
