Goodison Park is new Everton Women home

Everton Football Club has confirmed that Goodison Park will become the permanent home of Everton Women from the 2025-26 Barclays Women’s Super League season, marking a significant milestone for the club and women’s football.

The decision follows a comprehensive review of the Goodison Legacy project by The Friedkin Group (TFG), who assumed ownership of the club in December 2024.

The move will see Everton Women relocate from Walton Hall Park to Goodison Park, English football’s first purpose-built stadium, when the men’s senior team transitions to their new stadium. The club stated that the decision reflects the rapid growth of Everton Women and the need for a larger, more suitable venue to accommodate their ambitions. Enhancements to Goodison Park will be implemented over time to ensure appropriate facilities are in place before the season begins.

The relocation is expected to boost the local economy through increased matchday footfall and will maintain Goodison’s status as a cornerstone of Liverpool’s sporting and cultural landscape. In addition to hosting Everton Women’s matches, the stadium will stage selected Academy fixtures and support the expansion of Everton in the Community’s L4 campus. Walton Hall Park will continue to serve as a hub for grassroots, community, and development programmes for women’s and girls’ football.

Everton CEO Angus Kinnear highlighted the significance of the move, telling the clubs official website: “We know how treasured Goodison is, not only to every Evertonian, but to the game itself, and being able to keep such an iconic stadium at the heart of the legacy project is something that has been incredibly important to us. From next season, we are proud to say our women will have an unrivalled permanent home in the WSL – another statement of intent as we look to build the foundations that will help us challenge for trophies.”

Kinnear acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in the project’s success, drawing parallels with TFG’s achievements with AS Roma’s women’s team. “The women’s game has grown significantly in recent years, and we believe that growth will continue and accelerate,” he added.

Everton captain, Megan Finnigan, expressed her excitement about the move, saying: “This move is a testament to where the women’s game is right now and, more importantly, where it is heading. Goodison is a magical stadium with a deep heritage and close ties to the local community. Leading the team out for that first home match of next season will be nothing short of a career highlight – and the prospect of what Everton Women can become with such an iconic ground to call our home is hugely exciting.”

The announcement underscores TFG’s commitment to Everton Women, evidenced by recent investments in players and staff, with the aim of building a squad capable of competing for major honours in the WSL.
