Genero Adran Leagues

Pontypridd United staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Connah’s Quay Nomads 3-2, securing promotion back to the Genero Adran Premier in a thrilling encounter at Latham Park.

The match began with Pontypridd displaying greater intensity, creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, Connah’s Quay goalkeeper Molly France was in fine form, thwarting efforts from Lauren Payne, Leah Emanuel, and producing an outstanding save to deny Faye Marshall.

The Nomads, the Genero Adran North champions, took time to settle but gradually found their rhythm. Hannah Slack’s volley struck the top of the net, and Anna Marsh’s free kick narrowly cleared the bar.

A key duel unfolded between Nomads’ captain Polly Wild-McGregor and Pontypridd’s goalkeeper Amelia Forkings, who made two excellent saves to keep Wild-McGregor at bay, but the Nomads’ number seven broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a composed finish. Moments later, Poppy Kendrick-Jones capitalised on Forkings’ positioning, lobbing a superb volley to give Connah’s Quay a 2-0 lead at half time.

Pontypridd responded swiftly after the break, with substitute Shannon Hindmarsh heading in from Madison Williams’ corner just two minutes into the second half. Claire O’Sullivan’s side maintained pressure, though Payne was denied by a tight angle and Caitlin Seaborne’s header went over. At the other end, Connah’s Quay thought they had restored their two-goal lead when Wild-McGregor scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

With ten minutes remaining, Pontypridd’s Nicole Fenton levelled the scores, turning sharply in the box to fire into the bottom corner. Barely a minute later, Quianna Wheeler completed the turnaround, converting Emily Poole’s cross to put Pontypridd ahead.

Despite a late surge from Connah’s Quay, Pontypridd held firm to clinch victory and an immediate return to the Genero Adran Premier.
