FA Women’s National League
The League Cup resumed on Sunday with the second round of group matches in the revamped
competition.
Group A
Plymouth Argyle made it two wins out of two when they ran out 5-1 winners over Bridgwater Utd. Imogen Crawford was on target twice for Argyle, along with Olivia Francis, Phoebie Poole and Charlotte Whitmore, whilst the visitors' consolation came from Connie Pengelly. Bristol Rovers meanwhile opened up their matches by beating Marine Academy Plymouth 2-0 with both goals coming in the second half, Laura Barrett putting them in front and Rianne Bourne-Hallett adding the second.
Group B
Exeter City have opened up a three point lead at the top following their 5-2 victory over Southampton FC Academy. Ellie Sara bagged a brace for the Grecians and the others came from Phoebe Baker, Georgina Presswell and Ishbel Zuurmond, with Lucy Chads and Natalie Matthews. The points were shared in the other group match as Abingdon Utd and Portishead Town finished level at 1-1, Kimmi Tanner-Joyce putting Portishead in front early in the second half and Molly Lygo-Jackson equalising five minutes later.
Group C
Swindon Town maintained their winning start to the new season as they defeated Keynsham Town 3-1. Libby Davies netted a goal in each half and Sarah King was also on target, Abi Todd replying for Keynsham. Gwalia Utd were 4-0 victors over Bristol City Academy, courtesy of a goal apiece from Beth McGowan, Casi Gregson, Georgia Walters and Tia Asker.
Group D
Lewes are new group leaders after toppling Brighton & Hove Albion Academy with a 3-0 victory. Rebekah Trewhitt put the Rookettes in front on the hour mark with the first of her double, before Olivia Carpenter rounded off the scoring. Fulham meanwhile recorded their first win, 4-1 against Worthing, with Ellie Olds (2), Kayleigh Stead and Stella Gandee-Morgan accounting for the goals, and Lauren Amerena replying.
Group E
Sophie Quirk scored twice, once in each half, as AFC Bournemouth recorded a second victory with a 2-0 success against Moneyfields. In the other group game, Ascot Utd eased to a 4-0 win away to Bournemouth Sports with strikes from Jacey Lane, Mia Delaney, Erin Huntley and Kate Fox.
Group F
Cheltenham Town, last year's Plate winners, appear to be on their way towards qualification in the Cup this time around after they defeated Birmingham City Academy 4-0 for a second straight win. Issy Newns gave them an early lead and they went on to add further goals through Courtney Jones, Una Lue and Guymira Apuusi-Tchassem. Worcester City meanwhile got off the mark with a 2-0 victory over Kidderminster Harriers, Jessica Fassnidge and Carys Lowley getting on the scoresheet.
Group G
The top two are set for a showdown to settle who will finish on top of the group after both recorded a second straight win. Chatham Town head the way on goal difference, with Madison Woodgate, Amelia Woodgate and Lucy Jones giving them a 3-0 win at Billericay Town. AFC Sudbury meanwhile beat London City Lionesses Academy 2-0, courtesy of Jessica Allen and Sheryce Slater.
Group H
Molly O'Reilly and Claudia Cholakian accounted for the goals as Actonians won 2-1 against Chelsea Academy, who replied through Eva Hendle. The A's head the group by three points from AFC Wimbledon who moved into the second spot by beating Maidenhead Utd 6-1. Ellie Dorey and Iola Cotter each bagged braces for the Dons, while Daisy McLachlan and Ashlee Hincks weighed in with the other goals.
Group I
Dulwich Hamlet kept up their good start on the group by defeating Crystal Palace 2-0, Natalie Taylor was on target along with an own goal. The points were shared in the other group game with Hashtag Utd and London Bees battling out a 2-2 draw. The Tags had led by two goals at half time through Aryanna Adesan and Isabelle Tomlin, before the Bees hit back after the break with Betty Larkin and Cheyenne Flynn earning them a point.
Group J
For the second time in a row, this group produced two emphatic victories which leave the top two level on six points. Watford stay top on goal difference after scoring nine times without reply past Chesham Utd, Lachante Paul hitting a hat-trick with one each from Marcie Omeara, Freda Ayisi, Anna Filbey, Madison Perry, Megan Chandler and Maya Kendell. Melis Mehmet meanwhile led the scoring with a four-goal haul and Anna Dzyadyk contributed the other two as Queen's Park Rangers ran out 6-1 winners over Charlton Athletic Academy, whose consolation came from Siobhan McMahon.
Group K
The opening round winners met each other on Sunday and it was Rugby Borough who were 1-0 victors over Northampton Town, thanks to a goal just before half time from Kelis Barton. Arsenal Academy notched up their points in the other game, coming from behind to win 2-1 at Loughborough Lightning who had led at the break through Ella-Mai Coutts.
Group L
Real Bedford made it two wins out of two when beating Norwich City 2-0, Chloe Logie giving them a first half lead and Issy Bryant adding the second late on. First half goals from Jade Bell and Mia Richards earned Cambridge Utd a 2-1 success away to Peterborough Utd, despite an own goal giving the Posh Women hope late on.
Group M
Oxford Utd hold on to the leadership after Emma Thompson, Nicole Barrett and Holly Turner gave them a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur Academy, Jhanaie Pierre replying. Luton Town join the U's on six points; Lisa Milliken and Natasha Fensome accounting for their goals in a 2-1 success against Milton Keynes Dons, whose consolation came from Favour Omenazu.
Group N
West Bromwich Albion maintained their good start as Molly Kehoe and Olivia Rabjohn both netted in their 2-0 win against Leicester City Academy. Albion head the table by two points from Leafield Athletic who beat Stourbridge 4-0 thanks to Gemma Fraser, Evie Gallop, Gwen Horgan and Rebecca Fraser.
Group O
Things look tight in this group following the meeting between the top two culminated in a 1-1 draw, an equaliser just before half time from Leonie Joyce earning Boldmere St Michaels a share of the spoils after Milly Round had put Aston Villa Academy ahead. Sporting Khalsa are now just a single point behind the top two, an Ania Denham brace and an own goal giving them a 3-1 win away to Sutton Coldfield Town, whose reply came from Eva Cassidy.
Group P
Olivia Edwards netted twice, with Marnie Drake, Chene Dior Muir, Kate Oakley and Lily Skeldon adding the others as Derby County powered to a 6-2 victory over Lincoln Utd, whose strikes came from Weronika Kruszyna and Madison Green. Notts County join Sheffield FC on three points after winning their meeting 2-0, courtesy of two goals in a three minute second half spell from Leah Hardy and Shoniqua Barnes.
Group Q
Wolverhampton Wanderers made it two wins out of two when they defeated Manchester Utd Academy 3-1, with Charlotte Greengrass, Rachael Quigley and Amelia Hiscox all scoring after Layla Drury had put United ahead. Evie Priestley (2), Dominique Cooper, Delphi Cole, Ruby Scott and Ruby Millington accounted for the goals as Stoke City won 6-0 against Wythenshawe.
Group R
Liverpool Feds moved to the top of the group after Emily Cole, Katie Anderson and Courtney Willis all scored in their 3-0 win against Liverpool FC Academy. Two late goals from Ella Harris and Harriet Houghton salvaged a 2-2 draw for Cheadle Town Stingers at home to Stockport County, who had led through a brace from Levi Rathburn.
Group S
Hull City have opened up a lead of three points following their 6-1 victory over Sheffield Utd Academy. Hope Knight bagged a brace for the Tigresses and she was joined on the scoresheet by Grace Foyer, Catherine Hamill, Sophie Haywood and Erin Nicholson. Doncaster Rovers Belles meanwhile claimed their first win when an own goal, sixteen minutes from time, gave them the points against Barnsley.
Group T
Burnley look to be on the verge of going through after powering to a second win, scoring six times without reply past Huddersfield Town. Charlie Chadwick and Aimee Kelly each bagged doubles, with one each from Brooke Cairns and Heidi Logan. Chorley went two better against Blackburn Rovers, Olivia Ellinson led the scoring with a hat-trick and the others came from Molly Wood (2), Elizabeth Hamer, Rachel Lawrence and Isobel Binks.
Group U
Leeds Utd and Norton & Stockton Ancients jointly head the table after their clash finished in a 2-2 draw. Leeds twice went ahead through Alice Hughes and Abbie Graham, with the home side battling back on each occasion with goals from Georgia Rae and Erin Green. In the other game, strikes from Bonnie Davies, Megan Shaw, Ainsley Strickland, Anna Phillips, Farah Crompton and Mia Jacobs giving them a 6-1 victory over York City, who replied through Rosie Bell.
Group V
Middlesbrough and Sunderland Academy remain in the top two after battling out a goalless draw with each other, whilst Durham Cestria are now a single point behind in third. After falling behind to a third minute goal from Jenny Ashton away to local rivals Chester-le-Street Town, Grace MacKie and Grace Collinson hit back to earn the Wildcats a 2-1 victory.
Reserve Section Leagues round-up...
Stoke City are the opening day leaders in the Northern Division after Kaya Anderson (2), Eva Henshall, Annie Davies, Layla Kennerley and Kitty Roche all scored in their 6-0 win over AFC Fylde. Leeds Utd also started well, Yonah Dias and Lacey Ogley each netting doubles along with Ava Spencer-Smith and an own goal as they beat York City 6-1. Estelle Husband (2) and Annie Mitchell were the markswomen for Middlesbrough in their 3-1 success at Hull City and Notts County also won 3-1 against Huddersfield Town, thanks to Summer Oliff, Emily Morland and Chloe Snodin. Derby County meanwhile edged out Doncaster Rovers Belles 3-2, Lacey Snape (2) and Olivia Tomkins were on target.
In the South East Division, Ipswich Town scored six times without reply past Rugby Borough, Erin Williams on target twice along with Clara Armsby, Dulcie King, Phoebe Love and Frankie Williams. Lexi Reid (2) and Libby Monaghan meanwhile scored for Queen's Park Rangers in their 3-1 win away to Maidenhead Utd.
