England return to Wembley for decider

England will face Ukraine at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, on Saturday 5 December, kick off 5.30pm, with a place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 at stake.

Sarina Wiegman’s side secured their place in the final World Cup play-off round with an 8-1 aggregate victory against Greece in round one, winning 3-1 in Crete on Friday before a 5-0 success at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium last night.

The Lionesses will now take on Ukraine over two legs for a place at next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil. The first leg will be played away from home at a venue to be confirmed, before England return to Wembley Stadium for the decisive second leg.

The sides know each other well after England recorded a 3-0 victory in Liverpool in June, following a 6-1 win away from home in a match played in Türkiye.

The national stadium has provided the backdrop for several landmark moments in recent history, including UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 success and the 2023 UEFA Finalissima victory against Brazil.

Tickets for the fixture will be available exclusively to England+ members from Friday 16 October to Wednesday 21 October. England+ is the official membership programme for England fans and offers priority access to home match tickets. Any remaining tickets will go on general sale from Thursday 22 October. Both fixtures will also be broadcast live on ITV Sport.

Sarina Wiegman said: "We know what the opportunity is and we are looking forward to the challenge ahead. After a successful window just gone we now have some time and our focus is on being fully prepared against a team that did well in their own play-off. We have played Ukraine recently and know the qualities they have and the threat they can pose.

“First we need to approach the first leg in the best possible way but to play at Wembley Stadium in front of our fans for a place at the World Cup is a big moment. The stadium is special to us and we have shared many memorable moments there with our supporters. We know how much their backing means to the team and the role they can play in helping us achieve our objective.”
