Easington Sports’ double delight

Easington Sports 1 Thame United 1  (Easington won 4-1 on penalties)

The first match of the Thames Valley Counties League Finals Day at Arbour Park, Slough, matched the top two teams in Division Three North in the Plate final.

Champions Easington Sports trailed for much of the match to Thame United but forced an equaliser, then were perfect from the spot to seal a League and Plate 'double'.

The Red Kites took an early lead via a good finish from Talia Mead when played in on the right side side of the area.

They continued to look dangerous on the break but Easington grew stronger as the half developed, striking the woodwork and forcing saves from Thame keeper Lille Eames.

Easington tried to ramp up the pressure after the break with player of the match Sophie Lester a constant threat but Thame defended well to frustrate the champions . It took an outstanding goal to bring the scores level , Lester beating a challenge to fire home a powerful strike from 15 yards with 20 minutes remaining.

Both sides had half chances to seal victory but the tie went to penalties. Easington notched four out of four whilst Thame missed twice so the Banbury-based Sports, founded as a team in 2020 as part pf a wide ranging grassroots club, could celebrate a double success.
