Dawn Airey to continue to Chair role

The Women’s Professional Game can confirm that Dawn Airey will continue as Chair of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship board and transition into the same role within the NewCo as both leagues become an independent body this summer.

Airey has chaired the women’s professional leagues within the Football Association since the amalgamation of the two divisions’ boards in 2019, overseeing numerous landmark moments for the women’s professional game during that time.

Most notably, she was instrumental in the introduction and implementation of the league’s three-year women’s football strategy launched in 2021 which highlighted the need to produce and attract world class talent, maximise and engage audiences and grow commercial revenue and financial sustainability.

A highly respected international figure across both the broadcast and media industries, Airey will chair the NewCo board once it is established in its entirety, as the women’s professional game continues its transition into a stand-alone entity.

Speaking regarding the news, Airey said: “I am delighted to be continuing my position as Chair of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship board.

“As we move into this new and exciting era for the women’s professional game with the NewCo, I am very proud to remain on this journey with our clubs.

“We have achieved so much already in the past five years or so, but this truly is only the start of our growth as a women’s football collective in the UK.

“It will be an honour to work alongside our clubs and the league as we continue to develop the best women’s leagues and competitions in the world, both on and off the pitch, over the coming years and beyond.”
