An absorbing tie was in the balance right until the seventh minute of additional time when substitute Erin Bioomfield headed in the Cherries' third.
Bournemouth started well against the young Saints and keeper Mia King had already made fine saves from Gemma McGuinness and Molly Barron-
Saints came more into the tie around the half hour and Kaylee Buckingham headed home Lucy Beard's deep corner on 36 minutes. However, another corner restored Cherries' lead just before the break. Thompson’s delivery was forced home in a close range scramble by Lucy Cooper.
Keeper King was soon busy again on the restart with a couple of smart saves as Bournemouth continued to have the edge but Saints rang the changes around the hour mark to good effect.
