Chelsea take slim advantage

Chelsea will lead the way going into the final day of the Barclays Women’s Super League season on Saturday after they narrowly won 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

The Blues needed a victory in order to move above Manchester City into top spot, following a dramatic turnaround in the title race ten days earlier, against a Tottenham side smarting from their Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

The only goal of the game came in the 37th minute and once again, in-form Guro Reiten was heavily involved, this time as the provider with her cross being swept home by Maika Hamano.

Spurs almost equalised early in the second half when Ashleigh Neville shot over from close range following a corner, but this was the only major scare for Chelsea as they ground out the result they needed on the night.

Chelsea therefore have a better goal difference of two going into Saturday’s matches but neither side have an easy task - Chelsea travel to FA Cup winners Manchester United at Old Trafford whilst Manchester City are also away to Aston Villa.
