Beth Hepple wins WSL2 April award

The winners of the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 awards for April have now been confirmed.

Firstly, Durham Women’s Beth Hepple has been named as Player of the Month after emerging victorious in the combined public and panel vote.

The midfielder steered Durham to an unbeaten April which helped confirm their place in Barclays WSL2 for next season, rescuing a point for the Wildcats against Bristol City as she rifled home a penalty to earn a 2-2 draw at home against the Robins.

She backed that up with two assists against Sheffield United, the first a delicious flick on to Mariana Speckmaier before delivering a corner to the head of Dee Bradley on the way to a 2-1 win.

Sheffield United’s Amy Andrews, Southampton’s Jess Simpson and Ipswich Town’s Kenzie Weir were also in the running for the monthly gong.

Newcastle United’s Jordan Nobbs meanwhile has earned the Goal of the Month accolade for her strike against Nottingham Forest. A game that ended up in a 1-1 draw, Nobbs’ impressive long range strike in the 91st minute of the match earned the Magpies a share of the spoils come full time.

The midfielder was up against Ipswich Town trio Maria Boswell and Sophie Peskett (both v Sheffield United) and Kit Graham (v Birmingham City), as well as Crystal Palace’s Kirsty Howat (v Ipswich) and Southampton’s Aimee Palmer (v Sheffield United).
