Alton down the Shots
Alton 2 Aldershot Town 0
Alton recorded their second successive home Hampshire County League Division One win with a 2-
In front of a decent attendance at the Exclusive Networks Stadium including numerous vocal travelling supporters, a very good contest was settled by goals at the beginning and end of the second half.
There was little to choose between the teams in the opening 45 minutes of highly competitive football with both working tirelessly to defend their goal and shots on target were few and far between.
It took an excellent through pass by Cara Gittins four minutes after the break to fashion the opening goal. Even so, the Shots keeper was out quickly to block Teyla Poulter's initial effort but was powerless to stop the follow up.
A series of unfortunate injuries rather hampered the rhythm of the match. Aldershot battled hard to press the hosts back but in truth created very little to threaten an equaliser. Another moment of quality in the third minute of added time settled the outcome. A good ball was crossed from the left by Chelsie Stewart for Jodie Clinkard who took a touch before guiding a low shot just inside the left post.
All in all, a well contested match on a glorious October afternoon with two fine goals to settle the outcome and lift Alton further up the early season table.
