There is more to come - Hope
Women's Football World Cup News 2 Jul 2011
Hope Powell praised her side after they came back from a goal down to earn a 2-1 win over New Zealand that leaves them in with a chance of topping Group B.
Goals from Jill Scott and Jess Clarke secured the three points after England had gone a goal behind. But despite that setback Hope was always confident her side would come good.
"I think we enjoy making these tournaments hard work," said Powell. "Credit to New Zealand, they really put us on the back foot and we struggled with it in the first half, but I think we had most of the opportunities and play."
Two second half goals won the tie after the experienced boss addressed her team at half time with the game still hanging in the balance. She told her team at the interval: "Stick to the game plan, get the ball out wide, get balls in the box and put them under pressure.
"It paid off and we were lucky. Credit to New Zealand, it was a hard fought contest and we are just glad we are through it."
Japan lie in wait for England for a place at the top of the group and Powell hopes her side are saving their best performance for last. "We are not at our best, I think there is more to come but hopefully a win will relax us. We are expected to get out of the group, we are not quite there yet.
"It is tough and we just need to relax."
