Late goal gives Norway victory
Women's Football World Cup News 29 Jun 2011
Norway 1 (Haavi 84) Equatorial Guinea 0

A goal six minutes from time gave Norway victory against an Equatorial Guinea side which battled heroically in their first ever World Cup Finals match.
Norway got off to a flying start and almost took the lead when Emilie Haavi struck the post after the ball had been half cleared. Isabell Herlovsen then broke through on goal but drove her shot over with only Miriam to beat.
Guinea began to settle down after a difficult opening phase and their first chance came as Dulcia made a run from her own half before her shot was saved by Ingrid Hjelmseth, who also needed to turn a 30-yard effort from Anonman past the post.
Norway hit back with Elise Thorsnes forcing a save from Miriam but Equatorial Guinea continued to look dangerous going forward and Hjelmseth denied them a half time lead when saving Anonman's effort.
The second half started in the same way as the first; Lene Mykjaland striking the post and Herlovsen missing the target with only the goalkeeper to beat. At the other end, Anonman also shot wide when through on goal as both sides continued to spurn chances.
Norway again hit the post during a goalmouth scramble but Equatorial Guinea continued to have the better opportunities which they once more did not take.
The game seemed to be heading towards a goalless draw but Norway were to strike a fatal blow late on. Leni Larsen Kaurin crossed for Haavi to slide the ball home past Miriam for a winning goal which had not looked like coming.
Norway: Ingrid Hjelmseth, Nora Holstad Berge, Maren Mjelde, Ingvild Stensland, Marita Lund, Madeleine Giske (sub Lene Mykjaland 45mins (sub Leni Larsen Kaurin 70mins)), Trine Ronning, Hedda Gardsjord, Isabell Herlovsen (sub Cecilie Pedersen 62mins), Elise Thorsnes, Emilie Haavi.

Equatorial Guinea: Miriam, Bruna, Dulcia, Carolina, Ana Cristina, Vania, Diala (sub Adriana 65mins), Jumaria (sub Chinasa 52mins), Dorine, Anonman, Christelle (sub Laetitia 45mins).
