The North East League Premier Division title race is finally over after Huddersfield Town picked up the victory they needed.
A 9-2 win away to Hessle Town ensures that Huddersfield are confirmed as Champions and are promoted to the Northern Combination whilst Barnsley, who had led the table all season, have to settle for the runners-up spot.
Kate Mallin gave Huddersfield a fifth minute lead to banish any early nerves and Emily Heckler netted either side of a Hessle goal. Sarah Griffiths and Jo Symington both got on the scoresheet to send Huddersfield into the interval with a 5-1 lead. Hessle pulled another goal back midway through the second half but Heckler scored three times in an eight minute spell, taking her tally on the day to five. Mallin completed her double in the dying minutes to round off a great day for Town.
