After a long and topsy turvy season, Copsewood (Coventry) have ensured that they will be competing in the Midland Combination for a fourth consecutive season.
In a season which has seen the club come close to the brink of extinction, including the departure of long serving manager Mick Conneely, to stay up again ranks high in their 11-year history. Manager Ryan Conneely was full of praise for his players who before Sunday, had won four out of five games including the scalps of Northampton Town and Loughborough Students.
"In many games we have to play with the bare eleven and, more importantly, without a goalkeeper so the fact that we have achieved this is quite remarkable," he said. "To lose goalkeeper Natasha Smithers, star player Jodie McGuckin and our leading centre half Heidi Sloan within quick succession was a massive blow but this just seemed to bring the girls closer together and the attitude they have shown has been fantastic!"
Copsewood are now looking for new players to help push them forward in the forthcoming years. Anyone interested please contact manager Ryan Conneely on (07957) 932774.
