Arsenal have a lot of work to do to get themselves back into their UEFA Women's Champions League semi final after they were beaten 2-0 by Olympique Lyonnais in the first leg.
The match started disastrously for the Gunners in the Stade de Gerland as Lara Dickenmann played in Lotta Schelin to give the home side a second minute lead.
In the 11th minute, the 20,123 crowd were celebrating again as the same two combined to double their lead, Dickenmann again putting Schelin through and the Swedish striker netting her second goal.
Elodie Thomis went close to scoring a third as Lyon continued to dominate matters but Arsenal managed to hold on under the pressure and kept the score down to two going into the break.
In the second half, Arsenal came into the match a lot more and fashioned their best opportunity on the hour when Danielle Carter forced a good save from Lyon goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi. Rachel Yankey then picked out Ellen White in a good position but her shot lacked power.
Lyon continued to be the more threatening side but failed to add to their lead, going closest when Emma Byrne made a late save from Eugenie Le Sommer.
Arsenal will therefore have to repeat their performance against Rayo Vallecano earlier in the competition when they overturned a two-goal deficit. The second leg will take place at Boreham Wood next Saturday (3pm).
