The Southern Division promotion race was blown wide open on Sunday after leaders Keynsham Town were beaten 3-0 at home by Charlton Athletic on a bad day for the top two.
Gemma Bryan opened the scoring for the Addicks and Kim Dixson added a second. The two players combined for the third goal, a brilliant flick by Dixson releasing Bryan who rounded Keynsham goalkeeper Amber Thornell for her 13th goal of the season and enhance her side's chances of a top two place.
A draw would have put West Ham Utd back on top but they also lost, 2-0 to Portsmouth who breathed new life into their challenge. Both goals came in the first half, Tamsin Pibworth putting Pompey ahead with a fine strike and Lucy Quinn set up Justine Lorton for the second.
Colchester Utd are also back in the running following their 2-0 win away to Gillingham. After a goalless first half, Zoe Rushen gave the U's the lead within three minutes of the restart and Emily Heaslip rounded off a good week for her club with the second goal, nine minutes from time.
Cardiff City are just off the pace in fifth after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Queen's Park Rangers, despite scoring through a Natasha Harding penalty.
Brighton & Hove Albion have lifted themselves out of the bottom two with a vital 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town, who they leapfrog in the table. Kim Stenning and Stevie Lamb netted the goals for the Seagulls, with Yeovil replying through Jemma Tewkesbury.
