Just like their male counterparts, Blackburn Rovers Ladies also made a double deadline day swoop with the signings of exciting youngsters Sophie Riley and Emma Johnson.
Sophie (pictured right), a centre half, joins from Curzon Ashton, while Emma arrives after being released by Doncaster Belles.
Manager Adam Lakeland was delighted to bring in the two 19-year-olds, who he hopes will add real quality to the Rovers squad. "Sophie has played a lot of games in the Northern Premier League and has got quite a bit of experience, for her age, at that level," he said. "So I'm confident that she's capable of stepping up to the Premier League.
"With Nicky Twohig having now left the club to join Liverpool, it left us a bit short at the back, so we felt that we needed to bring in one or two new faces.
"Sophie is very good in the air and very dominant. There are certain aspects of her game that we hope to improve, but I feel that she has the potential to push on towards international level.
"Emma had played a lot of first team football for Doncaster and was unlucky not to get in their final Super League squad.
"She can play in a number of different positions, but we've brought her in to play as an attacker or just off the main striker. She can also play anywhere across midfield or at the back, so she's a good footballer.
"She has a good attitude to the game, she is at the right age and has good experience for 19.
"Both players are perfect for the group we have here. We've got a young and energetic squad and they will help us get better."
