Keynsham overhaul Hammers
 Women's Football News 1 Feb 2011
Keynsham Town overtook West Ham Utd at the head of the Southern Division by beating them 2-0 in their top of the table clash.
Goals from strike duo Naomi Clipston and Polly Wardle gave Keynsham victory on the day and saw them take over as leaders, one point ahead of the Hammers.
Portsmouth are four points adrift in third place, with a game in hand, after they won 2-1 away to Colchester Utd. Zoe Rushen gave the home side the lead midway through the first half but after the break, Lucy Quinn levelled the scores with a well taken finish from a Lindsey Roe pass. In the dying minutes, Shelly Cox rounded off a good team move by firing home the winner and giving Pompey three vital points in their promotion push.
Cardiff City made it four wins on the trot in the league, a 73rd minute strike from Lisa Bird giving the South Wales side a 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion which takes them into the top half of the table for the first time this season.
The division's two leading goalscorers were both on the mark as Charlton Athletic picked up an important 2-1 win at home to Yeovil Town. After the first half ended goalless, Gemma Bryan struck twice inside the opening seventeen minutes after the restart, keeping herself at the top of the scoring charts in the process. Jemma Tewkesbury pulled one back for Yeovil with five minutes remaining but Charlton held on to take the points.
Gillingham put distance between themselves and the bottom two by beating Queen's Park Rangers 3-0. All of the goals came in the first half, Lauren Phillips scoring twice and Natalie Crinean the other (see match report).
One match went ahead in the Northern Division, Aston Villa putting a dent in second placed Derby County's promotion challenge as they defeated them 3-0. Erin Vaughan, Emma Follis and Jade Richards scored the goals which take Villa up the table and into fifth place.
