Mossley Hill v South Durham RA
 Women's Football News 12 Dec 2010
F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
South Durham RA were taken all the way to penalties by Crewe Alexandra in the Third Round Qualifying after the sides had shared a 2-2 draw. Rachael McKnight scored the winning spot kick to end the resistance of the North West League side, after Kerry Dinham and Jade White had earlier found the net. South Durham will be away in the First Round, to fellow Northern Combination outfit Mossley Hill.
Mossley Hill Athletic Club has been in existence since 1924 when the local Vicar started the first ever Football team in the Parish. The Club has grown to be an essential part in community life ever since. The Football Section has thrived over the last 10 years with the Club getting a grant from the Football Foundation to build new changing rooms with the help of Liverpool County FA. The club currently has 23 teams, both genders, ranging from Under-7s to Veterans.
Mossley Hill started girls football around a decade ago and, considering the city has two of the main Clubs and Academies in operation, they have done very well indeed. Mossley Hill have collectively won many trophies over the years but more importantly, have given girls the opportunity to play their chosen sport. The Club holds Community Charter Standard status and was the first club on Merseyside to get the award, in the past they have also won the North West Charter Standard Club of the Year accolades and were voted Liverpool County FA Community Charter Standard Club of the Year for last season.
The women's senior team, started in season 2005-06 and many of the ladies playing today have been at the Club since a very young age. Last season was a particularly successful, with the first team winning the North West League Premier Division title, gaining promotion to the Northern Combination and the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup, defeating holders Everton on the way to the Final. The Reserves were champions of the Liverpool County League and are now playing in the North West Women's League.
The team is managed by Arthur Carson and Carla Lee - who scored a hat-trick in the last round against Peterlee Town - is first team captain, while Bob Farrant undertakes the role of Secretary.
The match takes place at Mossley Hill Athletics Club and South Durham will start off as favourites on league positions. However the league meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw and things could be just as close again this time.
