F.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Seahaven Harriers pulled off one of the results of the round last time around as they ran out 4-1 winners away to South East League leaders Bexhill Utd. Beth McKellar (2), Emma Hatt and Vicky Phillips scored the goals for Seahaven who have been rewarded in the Third Round Qualifying with a home tie against South East Combination side Ebbsfleet Utd.
Ebbsfleet were formed in 1998 and have always had strong links with the club at the Fleet, although the last few seasons' partnership working with the men's and youth sections has seen Fleet Ladies go from strength to strength, and the side has benefitted from the support by rising up the leagues. Ebbsfleet United is one of the highest placed teams in Kent and has an ambitious and professional set up whilst maintaining the importance of having a strong team unit and providing a good player development programme.
The Girls section was formed in 2006 with one age group at Under-11s. Ebbsfleet can now boast having four thriving teams and have made a commitment to develop girls football, continuing to build up the girls youth section to academy standards, forming a solid base at the club for the future of ladies football. They are proud to be an integral part of a FA Charter Standard Community Club at Ebbsfleet United.
The Fleet ladies first team compete in the FA South East Combination, which they reached in 2008-09 when winning the London & South East League Premier Division title, having finished as runners-up the season before. They have always entered the FA Women's Cup and the furthest stage they have reached so far is the Second Round. This season, after a difficult start, a good run of form has taken them into a mid-table position.
The team is managed by Kevin Shrimpton, with Helen Nkwocha as Coach, and Kelly Philpott is the club captain while Lisa Fulgence is leading scorer. Two unsung heroes at the club are Secretary Karen Baker, who does a fantastic job supporting the ladies section at Fleet, including organising players (never an easy job), looking after officials on match days, first aid and driving the team minibus! Women & Girls co-ordinator Tina Martin's roles include marketing and promotion, website, sponsorship, liaison with men's and youth sections at the club, the community scheme including Schools-Club link programme.
The match takes place at Seaford Town FC and league status means that Ebbsfleet will start as favourites. Nevertheless, Seahaven are having an excellent Cup run and will fancy their chances of taking on higher league opposition.
