Motherwell to face Celtic
 Women's Football News 30 Oct 2010
Motherwell Under-16 girls have progressed to the final stages of the 2010-11 Tesco Cup competition, following an impressive 4-1 win against Real Farmington in the semi final stages.
They will now face Celtic Under-16 girls in the National Final, to take place on Saturday November 13.
Both teams were well supported at the semi final fixture, which was played at Toryglen, Glasgow. During a highly contested fixture the half time score was goalless. The second half saw Farmington take an early lead from a well taken corner. A fantastic individual goal from Motherwell's Sam Pattison drew Motherwell level before the game was then put out of reach with two goals from Carolina Richardson, the final score finishing 4-1.
The National Final, also at Toryglen, will determine which team will go on to represent Scotland at the UK home nations final, to be held at a Premiership stadium on Sunday 22 May.
Motherwell manager John Lamont commented: "We're very pleased with the performance. The girls showed great character to come from a goal down in the second half and win the game. This is the second year running Motherwell girls have made it to the Scottish final and I'm delighted for the team and the club."
The Tesco Cup, now in its sixth year, is part of a wider commitment from Tesco to encourage youngsters to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and get involved in sport. The home nations grassroots football competition is run in conjunction with the FA and local communities.
Sir Terry Leahy, CEO of Tesco said: "The Tesco Cup is part of our commitment to encourage youngsters to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and play more sport. I wish all the players the best of luck for the season ahead, as they bid to be crowned 2011 Tesco Cup UK champions."
Teams from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will compete at County and then Regional level (Area level in Wales) in a bid to become National Champions and ultimately, to represent their country at the UK Final.
