Leicester players help launch academy
 Women's Football News 13 Oct 2010
Leicester players help launch academy - 13 Oct 2010 - Women's Football NewsFormer Leicester City players Steve Walsh, Julian Joachim and Leicester City Women's F.C. first team players Jade McLaurin and Holly Morgan turned up to support the launch of Syston Town Juniors F.C. FREE girls football Academy.
The Academy will take place every Saturday during the football season from 10am-12pm at Necton Street, Syston, LE7 8HF.
The Academy sessions were conducted by Rich Gunn, Lone Millin, Julie Toon, and Hollie Gunn who are all experienced in coaching girls football, and between them are qualified from FA Level 1 up to Level 3/UEFA B and Level 2 Goalkeepers awards.
Around twenty girls of all ages and ability turned up for the launch of the Academy where the focus was on fun games, techniques and small sided games. The Academy hopes to give girls the opportunity to try football for the first time as well as developing girls already playing.
Rich Gunn, girls academy coach, said: "It was a fantastic turnout and I am impressed with all the girls who attended. I am hoping to slowly build up the academy and next season have enough players to enter teams in the Leicester City and County Girls Football League.
"It was also good that Steve, Julian, Jade and Holly gave up their time to support the launch as they are players and good role models that the girls look up to."
Steve and Julian thought it was a great opportunity for girls to try football, while Jade and Holly were impressed with the enthusiasm and facilities at Syston and both got involved with the coaching sessions.
Syston Town Juniors F.C have one girls football team in the Under-15 age group, playing in the Leicester City and County Girls Football League, and are looking for players. The team play matches on Sunday's and train in Syston on Thursdays from 6.30pm-8pm. If you are interested in coming along to a training session or the FREE girls football Academy (all ages welcome), please contact Rich Gunn (Syston Town Aces Under-15 & Girls Academy Coach) on (07884) 117116 or e-mail R.Gunn@lboro.ac.uk, alternatively you can contact Samantha Chambers (Chairperson) on (07776) 291355 or e-mail sam.chambers37@hotmail.com.
