Gemma strikes blow for Hammers
 Women's Football News 21 Sep 2010
West Ham Utd have taken over the leadership of the Southern Division following a 1-0 win away to Portsmouth.
The only goal of the game came in the opening minute of the second half from Gemma Shepherd, helping preserve the Hammers' perfect record to date of having won all three games and no goals conceded so far.
Keynsham Town had started the day in top spot but are back in second after they battled out a 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic. Gemma Bryan bagged both goals for the Addicks, with Ana Bruni and Naomi Clipston replying for Keynsham, but the game was marred by an injury to Keynsham midfielder Dana Hinton who suffered a suspected broken ankle.
Gillingham's unbeaten start to the season came to an end as they went down to a 1-0 defeat away to improving Colchester Utd. An own goal from Lauren Williams separated the teams on the day to take the U's into third place.
Yeovil Town registered their first Premier League point when sharing a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion. It could have been even better for the Somerset side as they led through a goal from Jemma Tewkesbury, who kept up her fine start to the season, but a late 25-yard strike from Leeta Rutherford earned the Seagulls a draw and their own first point of the season (see match report).
