Gillingham have captured the signature of Sarah Jones from National Division side Millwall Lionesses.
The central defender has signed for the Gills and will go straight into the squad to face Colchester on Sunday. The 19-year-old has played for Millwall for the last five years but felt that the time was right to move on and seek a new challenge elsewhere.
Speaking about her move to Gillingham, she said: "To be honest I'm really excited for a change. Gills instantly appealed to me because having spoke to some of the girls before the move, they absolutely love it and I was also very impressed with the team's performance in both the games versus Millwall this season.
"The club's progression in such a short space of time has been incredible. Everyone at the club should be proud of their efforts and I hope to be a part of taking it forward even more so."
Manager Ian Varley was delighted to get a centre half with the experience and quality that Sarah possesses. He said: "It is a great signing and again it is a statement of our intent as to where we are aiming to be as a club.
"Sarah is a Premiership defender and I am delighted she has signed for us. She has come here to play football and she will be in the squad to face Colchester on Sunday."
Sarah counts Millwall and Crystal Palace as her former clubs and despite her young age she has a wealth of experience that will help the Gills in the Southern Division this season and beyond.
