Colchester United's Female Academy has reached the British Colleges National Elite League Final after a 9-1 demolition of Northern Champions Runshaw College in the play-off semi finals.
The Academy, based at Thurstable School, Tiptree will now take on Chelsea Ladies Academy from Therfield College in the National Final to be held at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday 11th May.
Maegan Doyle's first half strike had given Colchester a slender 1-0 half time lead in a tight opening period that gave little indication of the eventual scoreline. Indeed it was Runshaw who opened the second half brighter, equalising just a minute after the restart.
This served only to bring out the best in Colchester who were soon back in front through captain Alice Nutman. Femi Walker then made it 3-1 with a calm finish which opened the floodgates for further goals from Flo Gamby, Lilly Mellors, Kirsty Kindred and Ella Chapman along with Nutman and Walker adding their second strikes.
The players and staff will now look forward to the long trip to Yorkshire and the opportunity to play for the national title.
