Leeds Carnegie moved back into second place as a late goal earned them a 1-0 win away to Watford.
After the home side had held out for much of the game, Leeds snatched the only goal of the game with eight minutes remaining through full back Olivia Thackray to keep themselves in with a chance of the runners-up spot.
Blackburn Rovers returned to winning ways with a 2-1 success at Nottingham Forest. Lynda Shepherd put Blackburn in front just before the hour mark and, despite Forest levelling the scores through Andi Bell, Danielle Sheen settled matters with a decisive goal for Rovers, four minutes from time.
There was late drama at Bristol Academy where Doncaster Rovers Belles grabbed a 2-1 victory in a match marred by a serious injury to Academy midfielder Michelle Green, who sustained a fractured leg following a heavy foul.
Precious Hamilton headed the Belles into the lead five minutes before half time but Academy inflicted heavy pressure after the break as they sought an equaliser, being denied on a number of occasions by fine defending. They looked to have earned themselves a point when Grace McCatty bundled home Helen Bleazard's free kick in injury time but Belles hit back straight away and a 20-yard strike from Emma Johnson earned them the points.
