Cardiff keep hold of Cup
 Women's Football News 20 Apr 2010
Cardiff City retained the FA of Wales Cup with a 6-0 win against a spirited UWIC Ladies at the Brewery Field, Bridgend on a fine afternoon, in terms of quality of football and weather.
The students from UWIC battled well and played their part in a good final, especially during a competitive first half. Captain Naomi Clipston looked bright in the opening quarter for the students and Lauren Welsh and Natalie Shenton both impressed, but the strength in depth of the Cardiff squad proved to be too good on the day.
Cardiff took the lead in the 35th minute when a handball from UWIC's Laura Charalambous, which was well spotted by assistant Karl Pugh, allowed Natasha Harding to convert the resulting penalty clinically. They doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time, which was a real blow for UWIC. It was a goal of real quality though, as Nicola Cousins picked out her captain Charlotte Miller with a quality left foot cross and Miller headed passed Philippa Gent.
Cardiff were awarded a second penalty after the break by referee Howie Farrell, when UWIC defender Caoimhe Terinan pushed Harding in the box. The striker got up to score her second from the spot, despite Gent getting a hand to it.
It became 4-0 shortly afterwards when Player of the Match, Amie Lea scored a deserved goal. Lisa Bird then came off the Cardiff bench and she scored the fifth after good work from Lea on the right and the icing on the cake came from another sub, as Marie Barrow headed in at the far post.
The score probably flattered Cardiff as UWIC battled until the final whistle, but Michele Adams' team were worthy winners and they remain unbeaten in this competition for an incredible eight seasons.
Cardiff City: Rhian Nokes; Amie Lea, Lauren Townsend, Terri Beddows, Sophie Ingle, Charlotte Miller, Natasha Harding, Nicola Cousins, Ellie Davies, Danielle Broadhurst, Ellie Smith. Subs: Cori Williams, Rachel Cullen, Marie Barrow, Zoe Atkins, Lisa Bird.
