England Under-17 slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Holland in the final match of their Elite Qualifying Round campaign, bringing to an end their hopes of qualifying for this summer's UEFA Under-17 Championship Finals.
After beating Serbia 3-1 on Thursday and drawing 0-0 with Italy on Saturday, Lois Fidler's side came into their final group fixture needing a victory to replace their opponents at the top of the table and to subsequently book a place at the European Finals in Switzerland. Things were going exactly to plan when Katie Wilkinson gave England the lead in the 57th minute with her third goal in as many matches.
However, Dutch captain Kelly Zeeman equalised from the penalty spot just two minutes later and Sanne Schoenmakers scored the winner just three minutes from time.
As England will not participate in the summer's Euro Finals, this defeat also means they have failed to qualify for the next FIFA Women's Under-17 World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago.
England Under-17: Mary Earps, Lara Fay, Alex Greenwood, Sherry McCue, Hannah Short, Kirsty Linnett, Katie Wilkinson, Bianca Bragg (sub Elizabeth Ince 54mins), Danielle Carter, Phoebe Richards, Lucy Gunton-Jones (sub Freda Ayisi 65mins). Subs not used: Tatiana Saunders, Chloe Dale, Leigh-Anne Robe, Jade Bailey.
