Hammers boost hopes
 Women's Football News 23 Nov 2009
West Ham Utd kept their Southern Division promotion hopes alive with a crucial 3-2 victory against Cardiff City.
Gemma Shepherd gave the Hammers a first minute lead and Becky Merritt made sure they went into the half time interval two ahead. Natasha Harding restored Cardiff's hopes from the penalty spot, three minutes after the restart, but Clare Rogers restored the two-goal advantage just five minutes later. Marie Barrow pulled another goal back for Cardiff but West Ham held on for three important points.
Charlton Athletic also picked up a vital win, 1-0 away to Colchester Utd to put a six-point gap between themselves and the bottom two. Kristina Manktelow scored the only goal of the game for the Addicks, midway through the first half.
