Whitley Bay v Blackpool Wren Rovers

Whitley Bay v Blackpool Wren Rovers - 7 Nov 2009 - Women's Football NewsF.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Whitley Bay were narrow winners in the last round, goals from the prolific Kirsty Hunter and Lisa Coleman giving them a hard earned 2-1 victory over Sheffield FC which sees them reach the First Round stage once more.
In the First Round, Whitley will face Northern Combination opponents in the shape of Blackpool Wren Rovers who are entering the competition for the first time this season.
Blackpool Wren Rovers are going through a transitional stage, having appointed a new management team in the summer of Audra Bates (manager) and Stan Bates (assistant manager and first team coach). Audra played for Blackburn Rovers for a number of years and scored many goals as a centre forward and Stan has been coaching the team for over a year now.
In the season of 2007-08, Rovers successfully won the double of the North West League title and League Cup after an epic fightback in the Final against Liverpool Feds, having been 3-0 down at half time. They then consolidated our Northern Combination status last year after another successful season.
As far as this season is concerned, Rovers have not really had the best of luck due to injuries and illness, many of which are long term. Form has therefore been inconsistent due to not being able to name the same team week in week out but they are still capable of beating any team in the league on their day.
The Wilcock family have been closely associated with the club over the years and one of the sisters, Caroline, is in the squad for Sunday's game.
The match kicks off at 1pm at Whitley Bay F.C. and, although there are plenty of ingredients for an upset, a close battle could well take place.
