Liverpool keep up the pace
 Women's Football News 12 Oct 2009
Liverpool kept up their lead of four points at the top of the Northern Division by beating Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.
Kelly Jones maintained her run of good form by netting the only goal of the game, just before the half hour mark.
Manchester City stretched their recent winning run with a fine 3-0 victory away to previously unbeaten Leicester City. Levi Wensley opened the scoring for City with a 20-yard strike before, at the other end, Andrea Worrell saved a penalty from Courtney Sweetman-Kirk. Lauren Beckford doubled the lead five minutes into the second half and she scored her second goal midway through the half.
Aston Villa moved into third, thanks to a 3-1 win against Curzon Ashton. Carly Davies and Natasha Merritt put them two goals ahead by half time and Keeley Lowe added the third with ten minutes remaining, before Shelley James scored a late consolation for Curzon.
Newcastle Utd and Preston North End battled out a 2-2 draw which keeps both teams in a mid-table position. Stacy Crooks netted her eighth goal of the season to give Newcastle a first half lead which was cancelled out before the break by Sarah McCrea. Chantelle O'Hara sent Preston ahead for the first time after the break and they held their lead until injury time when Steph Eadon salvaged a point for Newcastle.
Derby County gained a much needed 3-0 victory over Leeds City Vixens which has taken them out of the bottom two places. Jenni Anslow put them in front just after the half hour and Marie Wayne netted the second just before the interval. Sinead Morgan wrapped up the win for Derby on the hour mark.
